Plasma Helps Make Medicines Patients Need
Plasma is the straw-colored liquid portion of blood containing proteins including disease-fighting antibodies. It’s used to produce plasma-derived therapies that help people living with serious, complex health conditions.
We collect plasma through a process called plasmapheresis. In this process, a machine separates plasma from the blood and returns the other blood components back to the donor. The body naturally replenishes the donated plasma, typically within about 48 hours for most healthy adults.
Plasma can’t currently be manufactured synthetically, so medicines made from plasma depend on people choosing to donate. Donating plasma helps support the therapies patients rely on.
